Quote from Suzuki Motor Corporation ALT/LT Service Bulletin #71:
"Due to inadequate sealing, water may enter thne throttle lever case. Under low temperature conditions, the water can freeze at the throttle lever pivot point inside the throttle case, causing the throttle lever to become stuck and fail to automatically return to the idle position when the rider releases the throttle."
This recall affects all model Vinson's 2004 and 2005 and all model King Quads 2005. Suzuki will have re-sealing kits available the week of March 14th in limited quantities, and will be fully available by March 31st. The kit consists of a tube of sealer and a protector tube for the throttle cable.
Quote from Suzuki Motor Corporation ALT/LT Service Bulletin #66:
"Suzuki Motor Corporation has determined that some customers with certain usage patterns may experience a durability problem with the reverse idle gear in 2005 model year King Quad ATV's. It has been found in some unique situations that using the reverse override switch at near maximum rpm, under a high load for an extended period of time may overheat the reverse idle gear and may cause the gear to seize to the reverse idle gear shaft. If this occurs, reverse gear mode will no longer work and the reverse idle gear shaft may fail causing internal engine damage. In the unlikely event of a reverse gear failure, forward gear will remain operational but the rider should immediately discontinue operation of the unit."
Suzuki has issued the Product Update Campaign (not a recall) for units in the below specified VIN range:
VIN: JSAAP41A_52100091 ~ JSAAP41A_52115244
Under this campaign the ECM will be replaced with an upgraded unit. The new ECM will still allow maximum engine torque in reverse, but it will limit the RPM to 70-75% of the original ECM RPM's. It will also only allow 60 second bursts of override with a minimum of 5 seconds pause in between bursts at which time the override button must be released and then re-engaged.
